What is Acne?

Acne is a common skin condition – the cause of spots – that affects practically everyone at some point in their life.  Most people suffer from it between 12 and 25, although they can occur at any time, and boys are more susceptible than girls.

Acne is generally most prevalent on the face, although it can also affect the back, neck and chest. The severity of acne can range from mild to severe, and it’s estimated that around 3 in 10 teenagers suffer from acne bad enough to need treatment to prevent scarring.   If left untreated, acne usually lasts between 4 and 5 years before calming down, although in more extreme cases it can last a lot longer.

In this section we’ll look at what causes acne, its various types, and a pimple-popping piece debunking those commonly held myths about spots.
