How does it work? Isotrex Gel works by unblocking pores, reducing the likelihood of blackheads and whiteheads developing. The active ingredient isotretinoin has similarities to Vitamin A.

DUAC ONCE DAILY GEL

Treatment type: Gel

How does it work? DUAC ONCE DAILY GEL is a combined antibiotic and exfoliant. It contains two medicines: clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide. Clindamycin is an antibiotic which stops the bacteria involved in acne from reproducing, while benzoyl peroxide prevents the development of blackheads and whiteheads. The gel is suitable for treating mild to moderate acne with spots and infection.

How often does it need to be applied? Once a day.

How long does it take to work? It may take two to five weeks before you see the effect of DUAC ONCE DAILY GEL.

Epiduo

Treatment type: Gel

How does it work? Epiduo gel is a combines two exfoliants, Adapalene and benzoyl peroxide, which work together but in different ways. Adapalene belongs to a group of products known as retinoids and acts specifically on the skin processes that cause acne. The other active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide, works by softening and peeling the outer layer of the skin. It’s suitable for treating mild to moderate acne with spots and infection.

How is it applied? Apply a thin film to clean skin and gently rub in.

How often does it need to be applied? Once a day.

How long does it take to work? Your doctor will tell you how long you will need to use Epiduo.

Lymecycline 408mg

Treatment type: Capsule

How does it work? Lymecycline 408mg is an antibiotic. The active substance lymecycline works by reducing the growth of bacteria which cause acne. It’s suitable for treating mild to moderate acne where there is active infection and inflammation.

How is it applied? Swallow with a glass of water.

How often does it need to be applied? One capsule per day, preferably in the morning.

How long does it take to work? How long you will have to take Lymecycline capsules for will depend on how quickly your condition improves. For acne, this will normally be at least eight weeks.

Potential side effects

All acne medicines come with potential side effects and here are a selection of the most common:

  • Skin irritation (may cause symptoms such as stinging, burning, itching, peeling,)
  • Oily skin
  • Dry skin
  • Redness of the skin (erythema)
  • Headache
  • Sensitivity to sunlight
  • Local skin rash
  • Scaling

Note: Never take Zineryt, Dalacin T and Duac (topical antibiotics) with antibiotic tablets (Lymecycline) at the same time.
